Petting, scratching and cuddling a dog could be as soothing to the mind and heart as deep meditation and almost as good for the soul as prayer.

Hi. My name is Andy. I am a beagle/blue heeler mix. My people think I am about 8 years-old,but we don’t know for sure. That’s because the family I have now did not know me when I was born. They adopted me from a Fort Worth rescue group in 2011. Before I came to live with my new family, I had to move around a lot. My life was kind of hard back then. The people I knew weren’t always kind to me. Then, I was run over by a car and hurt very badly. I had many broken bones and I even lost one of my legs in that accident. It took a while for me to heal, but now I feel great. I am happy. I know my eyes look a little sad, but I don’t feel sad inside, that’s just how my eyes are shaped. I hear it has something to do with my beagle ancestors…whatever that means! I am also healthy. I can still do all sorts of things with just 3 legs. I can run and jump and play and cuddle. I get to travel to many places with my people and my horse. We stay in hotels and I make lots of new animal and human friends everywhere I go. All this traveling around got me very used to seeing, hearing, smelling and sometimes tasting different things. My mom says I’m an easygoing guy, but I say I just love being loved! She was so proud of how I behaved at horse shows, that she decided I could come to work with her too. She’s a counselor person, so that makes me a counselor dog! We spend time playing with kids and talking to their families….well, she talks and I mostly sleep during that boring part. I hope that if you and your family come to our office, I get to meet you too. If we meet, you can pick what we do together; I’m happy to let you choose. (Remember that easygoing guy thing I mentioned earlier!) Well, that’s all the time I have for now. Maybe we can play soon!
